O’Hooley & Tidow at Reeth Memorial Hall – An Evening of Folk, Heart and Harmony
It was a real pleasure to photograph O’Hooley & Tidow performing at Reeth Memorial Hall this evening. Nestled in the heart of Swaledale, this small village venue continues to attract some truly outstanding musical talent, and tonight’s performance was a perfect example.
O’Hooley & Tidow are known for their thoughtful, emotionally resonant songwriting and beautifully crafted harmonies, and they brought all of that — and more — to the stage in Reeth. Their set ranged from intimate and poignant to powerful and uplifting, with stories that touched on love, loss, politics, and place. What struck me most was the easy connection they had with the audience. There was plenty of warmth and humour between songs, and a genuine sense of shared experience that filled the room.
From a photographic perspective, it was a great opportunity to capture the dynamic between the two performers — the expressive vocals, the subtle gestures at the keyboard, and the moments of mutual glance and unspoken understanding. I always enjoy shooting live music in smaller venues like this, where you can really feel part of the performance and get close to the details — whether it’s the energy in a song or something as simple as a boot tapping along to the rhythm.
Reeth Memorial Hall continues to be one of those rare local venues where intimate, high-quality live music thrives. Long may it continue. If you ever get the chance to see O’Hooley & Tidow live — especially somewhere as characterful as Reeth — don’t miss it.
